Calathes Strikes Again in Semi-Final Series
GREEK BASKET LEAGUE PLAYOFFS - SEMIFINALS (GAME 3)
|Panathinaikos||81 - 72||AEK|
Panathinaikos took a 2-1 series lead in the Greek Basket League playoff semifinals after defeating AEK 81-72 in Thursday’s game 3.
After a rather poor and balanced first half, it was AEK who came out as the better side in the second half and managed to build an eight point advantage. The Enosis seemed ready to pull off the upset, but Panathinaikos recovered in the final 10 minutes of play.
Similar to game 1, Panathinaikos were led by their captain, Nick Calathes, who finished the game with a scoring career-high 26 points (previously 23 points, set in Game 1). The Greek guard turned the game around in the fourth quarter and the Prasini walked away with an 81-72 victory, giving them a 2-1 lead in the best of five series.
Behind Calathes was Rivers, who finished with 19 points. For the Kitrinomavri Ukic scored 14 points while Mavrokefalidis and Mavroeidis each added 13 points.
Panathinaikos now only need one win to claim the series and advance to the playoff Finals where they will play either Olympiacos or Aris (Olympiacos lead the series 2-0). Game 4, which is a must win for AEK, will take place next Monday May 22 with AEK playing host at the OAKA Nick Galis Indoor Hall.
