Both Aris and OFI came from behind to defeat AOX Kissamikos and Ergotelis, respectively, as the two sides continue to lead the way in the Football League. Anagennisi Karditsas recorded a big win over Karaiskakis in their fight tt avoid the drop.
Aris came from behind to defeat AOX Kissamikos 2:3 in a thrilling match in Chania. The hosts opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a Leo’s strike from the top of the penalty area. The Thessalonikis, however, managed to go into halftime ahead as Diamantopoulos equalized in the 25th minute with a rocket from far out before putting Aris in front with a header just 3 minutes before the break.
The hosts put up a fight in the second half with Leo adding his name to the score sheet for a second time (62) to bring the scores level at 2:2. Aris then increased the pressure on the Cretan side and it was the Kitrinomavri that had the final say with Pasas making the most of Dousis’ cross to head the ball into the net five minutes before the end, giving Aris the 2:3 win. The result sends the league leaders 10-points clear of third placed Panachaiki (have a game in hand) as they continue to lead the way (with OFI) in the Football League.
It was another entertaining match in Crete as OFI came from two goals down to defeat their local rivals, Ergotelis, 4:2 in Iraklio. A whopping THREE goals were scored in the opening five minutes of play with Ergotelis catching the hosts off guard to take a 2-goal lead with Cuypers (2) and Stamatakos (3) in the opening moments. OFI quickly responded with Koutsianikoulis pulling one back in the 5th minute before the same player equalized for the hosts in the 17th minute. OFI went on to waste many chances in the remainder of the first half as the 2:2 scoreline held until the break.
In the second half, OFI completed the comeback with a superb finish from Dinas in the 52nd minute, giving his side the 3:2 advantage, before Sergio added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute to put OFI ahead 4:2. All hope was lost for a struggling Ergotelis side who went down to 10-men after Vogiatzis was shown a red card. The scoreline remained the same at the final whistle as OFI increased their lead over third placed Panachaiki (have a game in hand) to 10-points and with Aris, lead the way in the Football League. Ergotelis remain on 23 points tied with Aiginiakos in the final “safety” spot.
Anagennisi Karditsa added an important three points to their tally as they look to avoid the drop. The Thessaly club defeated Karaiskakis 1:0 at home with Tzekos’ 52nd minute goal separating the sides at the final whistle. The result temporarily sends Anagennisi into safety with 25 points, two ahead of Aiginiakos and Ergotelis.
In other action, Aiginiakos gave up a lead to fall at home to Apollon Larisas 1:2. The match concluded with 3 red cards, two for Aiginiakos and one for Apollon Larisaa. Apollon Pontou’s impressive win streak came to an end as they played to a 1:1 draw against midtable Trikala. Relegation bound Panegialios and Kallithea played to a disappointing goalless draw, a result that benefits neither side.
