Olympiacos came back from 10-points down midway through the 4th quarter to defeat Panathinaikos 64-62 in game 3 of the Greek Basket League finals. Olympiacos lead the series 2-1.
Similar to game 1, Panathinaikos came close to breaking Olympiacos’ home court advantage in the Finals series, however it was the hosts who once again celebrated victory at the Peace and Friendship stadium. After three quarters of poor basketball from both teams, a thrilling fourth quarter ensued.
The visitors took a five point lead which quickly doubled to a 10-point lead (48-58) with just five minutes to play. However, big shots from behind the arch from Spanoulis, Mantzaris, and Printezis brought Olympiacos within one point (61-62) with two minutes to play.
Milutinov went 2/2 from the free-throw line to give Olympiacos their first lead in the fourth quarter (63-62). A turnover from Panathinaikos proceeded a foul on Printezis, who went 1/2 from the line, to give the Erythrolefki a two point lead (64-62) with 13 seconds to play. The game came down to the final shot with James putting up an unbalanced three-point effort, however his shot missed the target and Olympiacos held onto the 64-62 win.
Just like the first game, Milutinov was Olympiacos’ best player of the night with 14 points while Printezis scored important points at the end of the game and finished with 10 points. Spanoulis scored 5 points and dished 7 assists. James and Calathes led Panathinaikos with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
A must win game four for Panathinaikos will take place on Thursday at the OAKA stadium while the defending champions, Olympiacos, look to clinch their third straight title.
