AEL visited Luxembourg to face local side Progres Niederkorn, who pulled off a big surprise in the first qualifying round by knocking out Scottish side Rangers. AEL were overall the better side, hitting the woodwork on three occasions while creating many other chances to score. Fortunately, Arruabarena’s found the breakthrough in the 66th minute and gave the Limassol side an important 0-1 win before next week’s 2nd leg fixture in Cyprus. After the match, the AEL players stated that nothing is over yet, but will expect to finish the job next week in front of their fans. Highlights can be found here...

AEK escaped from Ireland and Cork City with an important 0-1 win on Thursday. The Irish side were tough opponents and had great chances to score, specifically in the early parts of the second half. However, AEK never sat back for the draw and managed to score an all-important away goal with Truyols in the 70th minute. The goal was a dagger to the hosts, who never looked the same, and the Cypriots walked away with the 0-1 road win. AEK will be favorites to progress to the next round as a good performance at the AEK Arena next Thursday should be enough to send them through. Highlights can be found here...

With three goals in the first 30 minutes, Apollon showed who are the favourites against Moldovan side Zaria. Scembri, Da Silva (penalty), and Joao Pedro added their name to the score sheets as the Limassol side controlled the pace of the game and the 3-0 result (stood at the final whistle). Apollon will travel next week to Moldova to confirm their place in the next qualifying round holding a 3-goal aggregate lead. Sofronis Avgousti’ men put together a convincing display and showed that his team has great potential for the upcoming season. Highlights can be found here...
