Damaging loss for Greece U19 against Italy
UEFA U19 EURO 2018 ELITE QUALIFYING - SECOND STAGE
|Greece U19||0 - 2||Italy U19|
The under 19 Greek national team endured a difficult first match in the elite round of UEFA Euro 2018 qualification, losing to Italy 0:2.
Placed in Group 3 with Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic, the young Greeks must finish in first position if they are to qualify for the U19 European championships which will take place in Finland between the 16th and 29th of July. Italy are hosting all Group 3 matches.
Unfortunately for Greece, the Italians proved too strong with their home support cheering them on. 19-year old Cremonese forward Gianluca Scamacca was the difference, opening the scoring after eight minutes before doubling his money late in the first half.
The Greeks registered ten shots on the Italian goal, but the hosts held the opponents at bay to claim a 2:0 victory. Greece U19 will now prepare to play the Czech Republic on March 24 in a must-win match.
