Dauda strike keeps Atromitos in touch with title race
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 19
|Atromitos||1 - 0||Larissa|
Abiola Dauda’s solitary goal secured a vital 1-0 home victory for Atromitos over Larissa at the Peristeri Municipal Stadium on Sunday as Damir Canadi’s team kept in touch with the SuperLeague’s leading pacesetters.
Dauda slotted home gleefully in the 61st minute after a great run and assist by French forward Nicolas Diguiny to settle a matchday 19 clash characterized by dogged defensive play by Larissa and not much in the way of goalmouth action.
Larissa, who are struggling in the lower echelons of the table, clearly set their stall upto frustrate the hosts, who have played some fine attacking football in what has been a superb season for the club to date.
But their efforts went in vain just after the hour mark when debutant Brazilian forward Bruno, who is on loan from LASK Linz, combined brilliantly with Diguiny to set up Dauda.
The win moved fourth-placed Atromitos on to 37 points, four points adrift of Olympiacos and AEK who are second and third respectively.
