Defeat for Greece U19 against Poland
UEFA U19 EURO 2018 ELITE QUALIFYING - SECOND STAGE
|Poland U19||3 - 1||Greece U19|
Greece U19 rounded off the 2018 European championship elite qualifying campaign in Italy with a 1:3 loss to Poland.
Despite beating the Czechs 3:2 in the previous game, the Greeks didn’t have any chance of qualifying for the competition because of a negative head-to-head record against group winners Italy. Only the teams in first place make the final competition in Finland.
Nevertheless, Greece U19 started in positive fashion against the Poles, breaking the deadlock after 13 minutes with Anastasios Douvikas hitting the target. Poland found an instant response though, as Sebastian Bergier drew them level 120 seconds later.
Unfortunately for the Greeks, Jakub Moder and Riccardo Grym scored late markers in the second half to give Poland a confidence boosting 3:1 victory. Italy win the group with seven points, Poland are in second with four, Greece occupy third position on three points and the Czech Republic bring up the rear with two points.
