Defending Cup Champions Get Off to Solid Start
GREEK CUP - MATCHDAY 1
|PAOK||2 - 1||Levadiakos|
Last year’s Greek Cup winners, PAOK, got off to a great start in this year’s edition with a 2-1 home win over Levadiakos.
PAOK put together a much improved display in their opening fixture for this year’s Greek Cup, defeating Levadiakos 2-1 in the process. The Dikefalos tou Vora created many chances during the 90 minutes of play in what was one of their better displays this season. Pelkas opened the scoring in the 41st minute, just after failing to convert from the penalty spot minutes before, but Levadiakos responded 25 seconds after the restart with Giakoumakis to pull level 1-1.
The hosts, however, walked away with all three points thanks to a well-placed strike from Shakov in the 70th minute, giving PAOK a 2-1 victory. The win puts the Thessalonikis first in Group 2 along with their city rivals Apollon Pontou, who defeated Aiginiakos on Tuesday.
