Dellas the favorite to take over if Skibbe departs
Traianos Dellas is the favorite to take over the Greek national team if German bos, Michael Skibbe, departs.
One of the main topics surrounding the Greek national team after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup remains the coaching situation and if Michael Skibbe will remain in charge for the next two years. As of now, Michael Skibbe is the favorite to remain Greece’s head coach and lead the team in the upcoming UEFA Nations League and EURO 2020 qualifiers.
Skibbe has the support of both the players and members of the federation (EPO) and EPO has begun talks with the German manager regarding a 2-year contract renewal. Although a deal has not yet been reached, talks will continue on Monday.
However, if a deal is not reached between Skibbe and the federation, Traianos Dellas seems to be the favorite to take over the Ethniki’s head coaching position. Dellas, who has coached AEK and Atromitos in the past, is a former Greek international and was a part of the dream team of EURO 2004. If Dellas takes charge of the national team, he will be accompanied by other players from the EURO 2004 squad and they will make up Dellas’ coaching staff.
