Derby Ends in Draw...But a Loss for Aris
GREEK football LEAGUE - matchday 30
|OFI||1 - 1||Aris|
Saturday’s Greek Football League derby between OFI and Aris ended in a 1-1 draw in Crete, a result that leaves Aris further behind in the fight for promotion.
It was a match full of tension in Crete as OFI hosted Aris in Saturday’s Greek Football League derby. The hosts struck first when Milosavljevic’s powerful left-footed strike left no chance to Dioudis, giving OFI the 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Five minutes later, both teams were left with 10-men when a scuffle resulted in red cards for Pantidos and Bourbos.
Aris managed to equalize 15 minutes before the end as Kapnidis turned in Tatos’ cross with a well-placed header. With Aris needing all three points, they went on full attack in the final ten minutes and had a great chance to steal all three points in the final minute, however Tzanakakis was unable finish a golden opportunity inside the penalty area.
The result leaves Aris five points behind second place Lamia, who host the league leaders Apollon Smyrnis tomorrow. Today was a blown opportunity for Aris to pull within three points of Lamia before the two teams meet in Thessaloniki next weekend.
OFI remained in 5th place and are well off the pace for promotion.
