Dorsey set for fresh start in Memphis
Tyler Dorsey’s time in Atlanta is over after the Greek international was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies on trade deadline day in the NBA…
In one of the trades that flew under the radar on trade deadline day in the NBA, the Atlanta Hawks dealt Tyler Dorsey to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Shelvin Mack.
Dorsey, who was drafted by 41st overall by the Hawks in the 2017 NBA Draft, split his time with the Hawks and their NBA G League affiliate the Erie Bayhawks.
In 27 appearances for Atlanta this season, Dorsey averaged, 3.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
Dorsey is expected to report to Memphis’ G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle though Dorsey will be reunited with former college teammate, Dillon Brooks.
Immediately following the trade, Atlanta placed Mack on waivers indicating that the motive behind the trade was a cost-cutting measure as Atlanta aims to cut their salary cap hit before the end of the season.
Dorsey will hope to win a spot on the Grizzlies’ NBA roster, but will likely be limited in playing time behind the likes of Mike Conley and Julian Washburn.
Dorsey most recently represented Greece in the qualifying campaign for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, featuring twice in wins over Serbia and Georgia in September 2018.
