GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 12
|AEK||3 - 0||Platanias|
|Mantalos 77', 90'
AEK defeated Platanias 3-0 at the OAKA Stadium and celebrated their first win under Jose Morais. The final result is deceiving as AEK scored all three goals (2 from Mantalos and one from Aravidis) in the final 13-minutes of the match.
On a rainy night at an empty OAKA Stadium (fans showed their disapproval with the team’s form), AEK hosted Platanias for the 12th Matchday of the Greek SuperLeague. AEK searched for an early goal to take the pressure off of the players, but similar to their previous outings, the hosts continued to struggle on the pitch. Without creativity or a good string of play, the first half ended goalless.
Things did not improve for the Kitrinomavri in the second half, and as the game went on it looked as if AEK would drop points in yet another match this season. On the other end, Platanias did not pose a threat on the attack while comfortably holding onto the clean sheet. In the final 15-minutes, AEK began to increase their pressure and the breakthrough came with 13-minutes remaining when Mantalos’ closed ranged effort just crossed the goal line. Ten minutes later, Mantalos provided AEK’s second goal as Aravidis found the back of the net for his side and Mantalos capped of a fantastic final 13-minutes with his strike from outside the penalty area.
Today’s victory for AEK is the first under their new manager Jose Morais and puts them in 3rd place win 15-points. Platanias remains on 10-points after a bad spell of results.
