Durdevic set to sign with Olympiacos, Rumors intensify for Retsos
Now that Olympiacos have ensured a place in the UEFA Champions League, it will be a busy week at the club’s offices as the transfer window comes to a close. Durdevic looks set to sign with Olympiacos while the rumors regarding Retsos continue to intensify.
The €30 million that Olympiacos will receive from their participation in the Champions League group stages will allow the club to proceed with roster enhancements. After Thursday’s group stage draw, President Vangelis Marinakis appeared determined to finance the appropriate signings that will lead the club to a successful season in both Greece and Europe.
The Erythrolefki are close to signing Uros Durdevic from Partizan. The striker’s name has appeared numerous times in Olympiacos’ transfer gossip over the last month and his move to Piraeus seems close to a done deal. Durdevic recently stated in an interview that he is ready to take the next step in his career in what seemed to be a farewell message to his teammates and Partizan, bringing life to rumors of a move to Olympiacos. The Serbian media reports that the deal for the 23-year old striker will close at €3.5 million.
According to sources, if Durdevic is signed, the possibility of Olympiacos pursuing another striker cannot be ruled out. In fact, sources mention that it could be Olympiacos’ biggest signing of the summer.
The transfer situation surrounding Panagiotis Retsos continues to grow as the end of the transfer window approaches and numerous teams appear to have turned their attention to the youngster. Apart from Leverkusen, who have already made multiple offers to the Peiraiotes (€15+ and a re-sale clause), Bayern Munich also have eyes on the 19-year old defender.
Retsos’ case will play a key role in Olympiacos’ final transfer moves. If the youngster is sold, the Erythrolefki will surely sign a stopper to replace him, with Club Brugge’s Bjorn Engels looking to be the first candidate. In any other case, Olympiacos could still proceed to signing an additional stopper for the new season to strengthen their defensive line.
In other Olympiacos news, reports from Italy connect Vasilis Torosidis to a possible return to the Limani. This rumours sparked after Elabdellaoui’s manager met with Giannis Vrentzos, who informed him that numerous teams have expressed interest in the Norwegian international. Torosidis’ return will only be pursued if Diogo Figueiras or Omar Elabdellaoui depart by the end of the month.
Spyros Risvanis, who signed with Olympiacos this summer, will continue with Atromitos on a one year loan deal, while Giannis Gianniotas was officially announced by Valladolid on a one year loan deal as well. The Greek international has failed for yet another season to earn a spot on the Olympiacos roster..
Lastly, Karim Ansarifard looks to be on his way back to Panionios as he wishes to see more playing time and keep his place on the Iranian national team for the 2018 World Cup. His likely departure supports the rumors that the Superleague champions could very well sign an additional striker after Durdevic’s deal is complete.
