Ergotelis mathematically assured safety in the Football League with a 5:1 win over Aiginiakos while Sparti, Anagennisi Karditsas, and Aiginiakos will fight it out on the final matchday to avoid the drop.
Ergotelis secured their spot in next year’s Football League with a 5:1 win over Aiginiakos. The Cretan side moved six points clear of the drop zone with one game remaining. Cuypers wasted no time to open the scoring for the hosts as he netted home just two minutes in. Aiginiakos pulled level just before the halftime whistle with Peric, however the visitors could not hold on for the draw. Ergotelis went on a scoring rampage in the final 20 minutes as Cuypers (70, penalty), Tselios (75), Iatroudis (77), and Stamatakos (90) found the back of the net to give their side a emphatic 5:1 victory. The result keeps Aiginiakos in a three way tie with Sparti and Anagennisi Karditsas as the three clubs fight to avoid the drop on the final matchday.
Sparti were handed a heavy 7:0 defeat on the road to Doxa Dramas and continue to flirt with the drop zone. The same goes for Anagennisi Karditsas, who lost 4:1 on the road to Panachaiki. Both Sparti and Anagennisi Karditsas sit tied with Aiginiakos on 37 points going into the final matchday. As it stands now, Aiginiakos are the sixth and final team in the drop zone while Sparti and Anagennisi hang on for safety. In the scenario of a three way tie between the three teams, Aiginiakos will be relegated. On the final matchday, Sparti travel to OFI, Aiginiakos host Panachaiki, and Anagenesis host Aris.
Aris said goodbye to a club legend, Neto, as they defeated relegated Panserraikos 2:0 in their final home match of the season. The hosts, who have secured promotion to the SuperLeague, scored two second half goals through Pasas (57) and Pavlidis (81) for the 2:0 victory. The result keeps Aris just one point behind the leaders OFI with one game remaining.
In other action, Trikala defeated relegated Kallithea 0:1 in a game that will have historic significance as it was the first time Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was used in Greece. Karaiskakis defeated Apollon Pontou 2:1 while AOX Kissamikos thrashed Apollon Larissas 7:0.
Panegialios and OFI were awarded the three points against Acharnaikos and Veria, who have withdraw from the league.
