Eternal enemies to face off in Basket League opener
The new Greek A1 Basket League season will tip-off with the derby of the eternal enemies when Olympiacos host Panathinaikos in Round 1. The match will be played behind closed doors.
On Tuesday, the Greek A1 Basket League draw was held at the Makedonia Palace in Thessaloniki. The draw, which revealed the schedule for the upcoming league season, paired Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in the opening matchday where the Erythrolefki will host their eternal enemies at the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias without fans. Olympiacos will serve a 5-match closed stadium ban to start the season for the incidents that took place against Panathinaikos during last year's Finals series.
Ther derbies will continue on round 2 when Aris host AEK and Panathinaikos host PAOK. Round 4 will see Aris host Olympiacos and one week later, PAOK will play host to Aris in the Thessaloniki derby.
The next derbies are scheduled for round 8 when Olympiacos travel to AEK and round 9 when PAOK play host to AEK. Round 11 will see PAOK and Olympiacos battle it out in Thessaloniki before the final derby of the first half of the season takes place on round 12 between AEK (host) and Panathinaikos at the OAKA stadium.
The Basket League season will begin on the weekend of October 7.
