Experienced Iranian Ehsan Hajsafi signs for Olympiacos
On Tuesday, Olympiacos announced their first signing of the winter transfer window. Ehsan Hajsafi is now a member of the reigning Greek champions, joining on a 3.5 year deal from Panionios.
The Iranian, who can play either as a left-back or in midfield, had only played for Panionios during the past six months, but his eye-catching performances attracted the attention of Olympiacos. In the end, the Thrylos managed to pick up the 27-year old for a reported fee of 600 000 euros. After signing the deal, Hajsafi gave an interview to Olympiacos’ official website. “I am happy to be a part of the Olympiacos family. I am looking forward to play in Karaiskaki Stadium, in front of our fans. Let’s win the 45th title!”
Before joining Panionios in June, Hajsafi had spent the majority of his career in Iran, however he did play the 2015/2016 season with FSV Frankfurt in Germany’s second division. Hajsafi is a seasoned Iranian international, making 89 appearances for the national team.
Following a mixed first half to the season, Olympiacos will look to strength their team even further. Nevertheless, yesterday, it became known that 44-year old Spaniard Oscar Garcia is reportedly closing in on becoming the new Olympiacos head coach. News surrounding the issue is expected in the coming days.
