Gamma Ethniki: Matchday 29 Results
Another team secured promotion to the Football League over the weekend while Ergotelis and Ionikos will fight until the end for the promotion ticket from Group D.
Group A: Doxa Dramas kept their slim hopes of promotion alive after defeating Naoussa 0-2 on the road. The win brings them within one point of first placed Apollon Kalamarias, who had a bye week over the weekend. However the team from Drama have played an extra game compared to Apollon. The Thessaloniki club need only a win in the final matchday at home to Almopos Aridais to secure promotion to the Football League. That being said, Apollon Kalamarias are expected to ro receive all three points from their matchday 28 fixture against AO Kardias, who did not show up to play. Thus, Kalamaria will more than likely win “on paper” for that fixture, mathematically putting them into next year’s Football League regardless of the final matchday results.
Group B: Apollon Larissas became the second team to earn promotion to next year’s Greek Football League after defeating Tilikratis 2-0 at home. The team from Larissa claimed first place in the group and left behind them the likes of Karaiskakis, Olympiacos Volou, and Niki Volou in the fight for promotion. In the relegation battle, three teams are still not guaranteed safety with Achilleas Neokaisarias favored to go down with Asteras Petriti, who have been relegated for some time now.
Group C: Promoted side Panachaiki drew away to Chalkida 1-1 while both Zevgolatio and Doxa Megalopolis won their respective fixtures as the two teams are neck and neck at the bottom of the standings on 25 points. Zevgolatio currently hold the tiebreaker advantage over Doxa Megalopolis and relegation will be settled on the final matchday.
Group D: The most exciting group in the Third Division is the fourth and final group. The ticket to next year’s Football League will come down to the final matchday as both Ergotelis and Ionikos were victorious over the weekend. Ergotelis defeated Ermis Zonianon 1-3 while Ionikos got the job done away to Ilisiakos 0-2. The Cretan club lead Ionikos by only one point before the final matchday where Ergotelis host Thyella Rafinas and with a win, can celebrate promotion to the Football League. Ilisiakos are three points away from safety and will need a win and other results to go their way if they hope to avoid the drop.
