Greece’s U20 National Team will be under pressure to repeat their feat of last summer when the 2018 FIBA U20 European Championship tips-off in Chemnitz, Germany on 14 July.

Greece head to Germany as European Champions after sweeping last summer’s tournament in Crete for the Ethniki Neon’s third European title since the tournament debuted in 1992.

Greece were drawn into Group C along with tournament hosts Germany, last year’s runners-up Israel, and defending Division B Champions Romania.

While there are many new faces on the roster, four players from last year’s title-winning campaign will help to guide Greece to back-to-back titles for the first time.

Greece’s quartet of Ioannis Agravanis, Vassilis Christidis, Dionysios Tataris, and Michail Lountzis will look to play a leading role for the Ethniki Neon after featuring in more depth roles last summer.

In addition to the returning quartet, Greece’s 2018 roster also boasts the likes of the Kalaitzakis twins, Georgios and Panagiotis, as well as Dimitris Moraitis who was Greece’s leading scorer at the 2017 FIBA Europe U18 Championship in Slovakia last July.

Giannis Kastritis, who took over from Ilias Papatheodorou, will look to guide Greece from the sidelines after a surprising campaign in the Greek Basket League with Kymis this past season. Kastritis, 36, will have a tough task on his hands as Greece have traditionally struggled in tournaments not played at home with the Ethniki Neon’s only podium finish on foreign soil coming in Croatia in 2010.

Greece open their campaign on Saturday against Romania before clashing with Germany on Sunday. The group stage concludes on Monday with a repeat of the 2017 Final as Greece go up against Israel.
