The Serbs took a decisive 3-0 lead early in the game, however the Greek team responded with two goals before Serbia pulled ahead once again with a 3-goal lead. The powerhouse Serbian team kept their comfortable advantage throughout the four periods of play and came away with a rather easy 11-8 victory in the end over the Greek team.
Greece was sent to the bronze medal match after falling 7-5 to the hosts, Hungary, in the semi-finals. The fourth place finish is a bittersweet placement at the World Championships as Greece once again proved that they have one of the best teams in the world, but did not manage to win a medal at the World Championships.
