The Hellenic Football Federation will look to take full advantage of the international break in March with hopes of scheduling two friendly matches for the Ethniki. Skibbe has been put in charge once again to lead the national team to EURO 2020 after a disappointing exit in World Cup qualifying in November and will use these matches to test things out before competitive play begins in September 2018 for the new UEFA Nations League.

According to, the one friendly will likely take place on March 24th in Basel, Switzerland against the Swiss national team. It will be a tough test for the Ethniki against the world’s 8th best team (based on the FIFA World Rankings), who have won 11 out of their last 13 games and qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. However, details for this match are still in talks between the two federations as a final deal has not been reached.

The other friendly fixture is likely to be held in Greece at the Kaftanzoglio stadium in Thessaloniki as the Ethniki begin their post Karaiskakis stadium era. The Hellenic Football Federation is in negotiations with another nation that has qualified for the World Cup with Egypt being likely opponents, according to Sport24.
