UEFA’s newest international competition, the UEFA Nations League, will officially enter the world of football as the draw for the competition will take place in Switzerland on Wednesday at 1:00 PM (local Greek time). Europe’s 55 teams have been separated into four leagues with Greece set to partake in League C as Europe’s 29th best team (based on UEFA Rankings).

Fourteen others teams have been placed in League C with Greece including: Hungary, Romania, Scotland, Slovenia, Serbia, Albania, Norway, Montenegro, Israel, Bulgaria, Finland, Cyprus, Estonia, and Lithuania. The 15 teams in League C will be drawn into three groups of four teams and a group of three teams. The 15 teams have been separated into four pots for Wednesday’s draw (see below) and a team from each pot will be drawn into one of the four League C groups. Teams within the same pot cannot be drawn in the same group (Greece will be placed with an opponent from Pot 1, Pot 3, and possibly Pot 4).

Pot 1: Hungary, Romania, Scotland, Slovenia

Pot 2: Greece, Serbia, Albania, Norway

Pot 3: Montenegro, Israel, Bulgaria, Finland

Pot 4: Cyprus, Estonia, Lithuania

The winner of each group within League C (four teams) will gain promotion to League B for the second edition of the competition in 2020/21 while the last placed team from each group will be demoted to League D. More importantly, these four teams will have secured a place in the EURO 2020 qualifying playoffs (to be held in March 2020), which will serve as a second chance opportunity for teams that do not qualify for EURO 2020 via the qualifying process.
