The Greek U17 national team will partake in group 8 along with Germany, Norway, and Scotland. Patra will be the host city for the six group matches as each team will play the others once. The top team from each group will qualify for the UEFA EURO 2018 finals while the seven best runners-ups, taking into account results from teams ranked 1st and 3rd in the qualifying group, will also qualify for this summer’s EURO 2018 finals.

Greece finished second in the first qualifying round, just behind Serbia in group play. The Ethniki Paidon racked up six points with two wins (Norway and Gibraltar) and one a narrow loss to Serbia.

Coach Vasilis Georgopoulos is confident that Greece will qualify for the EURO 2018 finals and hopes that the people of Patra will provide a great home environment for his players. “We have fully prepared ourselves for these matches and will fight to advance to the finals, which is our goal. We are in a great mental state. It is a very difficult group and each team has an equal possibility to advance. We surely want to begin with a win against Scotland for psychological reasons, however, all the matches are equally important. We invite the people of Patra to come out and be by our side.”

A dramatic come from behind victory on the final matchday against Russia was enough to send Greece to the Elite qualifying round.

We understand the difficulties. We understand that are group consists of many difficult teams, however we will take our chances driven by our team’s spirit and the passion of our players. The boys believe in themselves and their abilities and we understand that it will be a huge achievement for us and the nation if we do qualify for the Euro finals.”
