An eventful season has come to an end in Greece with AEK being crowned the league’s new champions. PAOK finished as runner-ups and defended their Greek Cup crown while seven-time defending champions, Olympiacos, finished in a disappointing third place. The SuperLeague’s surprise team, Atromitos, finished in fourth place as Asteras Tripolis snatched up Greece’s final European spot with a fifth-place finish on the final matchday.

At the end of the 2016-2017 UEFA season, Greece finished 14th in UEFA's Associations’ Club Coefficient Ranking. With this placement, this year's Greek SuperLeague and Greek Soccer Cup (2017-2018 season) will receive a total of 5 representatives for next year's 2018-2019 UEFA Champions League & Europa League.

The top two teams from the SuperLeague will enter the UEFA Champions League (AEK, PAOK) while the third (Olympiacos) and fourth (Atromitos) placed teams will enter the UEFA Europa League. The Greek Cup winner (PAOK) is also assured a place in the UEFA Europa League, however since PAOK will be playing in next year’s Champions League, the SuperLeague’s 5th placed team (Asteras Tripolis) will enter the UEFA Europa League.

With the recent changes made in UEFA’s distribution of teams for the UEFA Champions & Europa League, Greece’s representatives will begin in the following qualifying rounds in the respective competitions:

  • AEK: UCL 3rd Qualifying Round (Champions Route)
AEK will need to progress through two qualifying rounds to advance to the Champions League group stages.

  • PAOK: UCL 2nd Qualifying Round (League Route)
PAOK will need to progress through three qualifying rounds to advance to the Champions League group stages

  • Olympiacos: UEL 3rd Qualifying Round (League Route)
Olympiacos will need to progress through two qualifying rounds to advance to the Europa League group stages

  • Atromitos: UEL 2nd Qualifying Round (League Route)
Atromitos will need to progress through three qualifying rounds to advance to the Europa League group stages

  • Asteras Tripolis: UEL 2nd Qualifying Round (League Route)
Asteras Tripolis will need to progress through three qualifying rounds to advance to the Europa League group stages

If AEK or PAOK are eliminated in UEFA Champions League qualifying, they will continue their European journey in the UEFA Europa League. An exit for Olympiacos, Atromitos, or Asteras in Europa League qualifying will signify an end to their respective European campaigns.
