Greek defenders hit the target in the Bundesliga
Greek national team defenders Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Sokratis Papastathopoulos showed that they can be helpful at the other end too, as they both scored important goals for their respective teams in the German Bundesliga.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos, who plays for Hamburg in Germany, has never been famed for his goalscoring abilities, but he popped up at the right time in a home match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Aaron Hunt’s floating corner found the lurking Papadopoulos at the near post, and the latter glanced a pinpoint header beyond the Frankfurt goalkeeper after nine minutes. However, despite Papadopoulos bagging his first of the campaign, Hamburg did eventually lose the match by a score of 1:2.
Later on in the evening, Ethniki teammate Sokratis Papastathopoulos repeated the trick. At the 55th minute mark during an away Bundesliga game against Mainz, Papastathopoulos reacted quickest to a loose ball to drive his bobbling effort into the net at close range. Nevertheless, unlike Papadopoulos, this was already Sokratis’ third goal of the season taking into account Champions League matches. His marker set Dortmund on their way to a confident 2:0 victory.
