Greek-Turkish Matchups in Euroleague Playoffs
There will be two Greek-Turkish battles in the Euroleague playoffs as Olympiacos will matchup against Anadolu Efes while Panathinaikos face Fenerbahce in the best of five series.
After the conclusion of Thursday’s Euroleague action, both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos found out who they will be paired up with in the Euroleague playoffs. The two Greek giants have been paired with two Turkish sides and both Greek teams will enjoy home court advantage in the best of 5 series.
Third placed Olympiacos (will play CSKA tomorrow in their final regular season game with no affect on their final placement) will be paired up sixth placed Anadolu Efes. In the regular season, Olympiacos defeated Efes 90-66 in Greece while falling in Turkey 77-69 in a rather indifferent match. The two teams were paired in the 2012-2013 Euroleague playoffs where Olympiacos won the series 3-2 as they marched on to win the title that season.
Fourth placed Panathinaikos will face fifth placed Fenerbahce. In the regular season, the Trifylli defeated the Turkish side in Greece 81-70, but easily fell in Turkey 84-63. Fenerbahce are coached by Zeljko Obradovic, who was in charge at Panathinaikos from 1999-2012, and will return to the OAKA Stadium for a fifth time having fallen in his four previous trips at Panathinaikos since leaving the club.
Both Greek sides will enjoy home court advantage with the first two games taking place in Greece and the following two games in Turkey. If a game five is needed, both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos will host their opponents for a place in the Final-4.
The other two pairs in the Euroleague playoffs will be finalized after tomorrow’s final regular season games.
The first games will be held on April 18/19 and game two will take place on April 20/21.
