Greeks Abroad Review: Five tally goals

AGONAsport’s Shaun Nicolaides rounds up the performances of Greeks playing in other leagues in this week’s Greeks Abroad Review.

Young attacker Lazaros Lamprou gave a fantastic showing with Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie, scoring two brilliant goals in a 4:1 triumph against Excelsior. In Turkey, Georgios Tzavellas (Alanyaspor) and Andreas Vasilogiannis (Umraniyespor) also managed to hit the target with the respective clubs, while Carlos Zeca scored for Copenhagen in a large 6:1 thrashing of Odense and Stavros Tsoukalas got on the board in Hungary.

Odysseas Vlachodimos registered a clean sheet as Benfica demolished Nacional 10:0, Sokratis Papastathopoulos missed another Arsenal match through injury, Giannis Mystakidis made an appearance in Poland, and Konstantinos Mitroglou was kept on the bench for Galatasaray.

MAIN MEN (Comprised of current/former national team players and/or those playing in high profile leagues):

Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Arsenal/English Premier League): Missed the 2:1 victory against Huddersfield on the road with an injury.

Konstantinos Mavropanos (Arsenal/English Premier League): Stayed on the bench with Arsenal beating Huddersfield 2:1.

Jose Cholevas (Watford/English Premier League): Took a yellow card while playing 90 minutes of the 1:0 triumph over Everton.

Panagiotis Retsos (Bayer Leverkusen/German Bundesliga): Still on the sidelines with an injury and didn’t participate in the 5:1 away win against Mainz.

Konstantinos Stafylidis (Augsburg/German Bundesliga): Played the entire 90 minutes in a 0:4 away defeat to Werder Bremen.

Stefanos Kapino (Werder Bremen/German Bundesliga): Watched Werder Bremen beat Augsburg 4:0 from the comfort of the substitutes’ bench.

Anastasios Donis (VfB Stuttgart/German Bundesliga): Emerged from the bench as a substitute after the first half of the 0:3 loss against Dusseldorf.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Hamburg/German Bundesliga 2): Still on the sidelines with a long term injury and missed the 1:0 home win over Dresden.

Kostas Manolas (AS Roma/Serie A): Did not participate in Roma’s 3:0 victory against Chievo Verona on the road.

Charalampos Lykogiannis (Cagliari/Serie A): Kept on the bench in a 0:3 loss to AC Milan at the San Siro.

Orestis Karnezis (Napoli/Serie A): Remained an unused substitute in the 0:0 draw with Fiorentina.

Dimitris Nikolaou (Empoli/Serie A): Stayed on the bench as Empoli conceded a 0:1 defeat to Lazio in Rome.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis (Lecce/Serie B): Started the 1:1 draw against Venezia and was eventually substituted after 82 minutes.

Apostolos Vellios (Waasland-Beveren/Jupiler League): Didn’t participate in the 1:2 defeat to St. Truiden on the road in Belgium.

Odysseas Vlachodimos (Benfica/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Registered a clean sheet as Benfica demolished Nacional 10:0 in Lisbon.

Andreas Samaris (Benfica/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Started the game against Nacional and was replaced after 62 minutes of play. Booked by the referee.

Dimitris Siovas (Leganes/La Liga): Played 90 minutes as Leganes breezed past Real Betis 3:0 at home.

Konstantinos Mitroglou (Galatasaray/Turkish Super Lig): Kept on the bench with Galatasaray defeating Trabzonspor 3:1.

Georgios Tzavellas (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Scored a goal for his club in a 2:3 away loss to Goztepe. Substituted in stoppage time after receiving a yellow card in the second half.

Carlos Zeca (FC Copenhagen/Danish Superliga): Managed to score Copenhagen’s fourth goal in a 6:1 rout of Odense at home. Played the full 90 minutes.

Alexandros Tziolis (Al Fayha/Saudi Professional League): Stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes with Al Fayha drawing 1:1 with Al-Ettifaq.

ENGLAND

Dimitris Konstantopoulos (Middlesbrough/English Championship): The back-up goalkeeper watched Middlesbrough draw 1:1 with Leeds from the bench.

GERMANY

Dimitris Diamantakos (St. Pauli/German Bundesliga 2): Did not play a part in the 1:4 defeat to Cologne on the road.

Sebastian Vasiliadis (Paderborn/German Bundesliga 2): Competed for the entirety of the 2:1 away victory against Bochum.

FRANCE

Panagiotis Vlachodimos (Nimes/Ligue 1): Left out of the squad with Nimes defeating Nantes 4:2.

HOLLAND

Pantelis Hatzidiakos (AZ Alkmaar/Eredivisie): Stayed on the bench in a 3:0 victory for AZ Alkmaar at NAC Breda.

Lazaros Lamprou (Fortuna Sittard/Eredivisie): Scored twice in the first half as his team defeated Excelsior 4:1 at home. Later replaced after 83 minutes.

Konstantinos Lamprou (Ajax/Eredivisie): Sat on the bench in a surprise 0:1 defeat for Ajax at Heracles.

Marios Vrousai (Willem II/Eredivisie): Played 90 minutes as Willem II fell 1:2 against VVV Venlo.

Evangelos Pavlidis (Willem II/Eredivisie): Used as a substitute for the final 32 minutes of the 1:2 loss against VVV Venlo on the road.

Kaloudis Lemonis (Telstar/Eerste Divisie): Missing from the Telstar squad as his team lost 0:3 against Waalwijk.

BELGIUM

Giorgos Galitsios (Mouscron/Jupiler League): Stayed on the bench with Mouscron beating Gent 2:1.

Charis Charisis (Kortrijk/Jupiler League): Didn’t move from the bench in a 1:0 away victory against Eupen.

Stergos Marinos (Charleroi/Jupiler League): Missed the 1:1 draw with Oostende at home.

PORTUGAL

Nikolaos Ioannidis (Maritimo/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Left out of the team for a match against Aves at home. Maritimo lost 0:1.

CZECH REPUBLIC

Giorgos Katidis (Pribram/Czech First League): Stayed on the bench with Pribram losing 0:4 to Liberec.

TURKEY

Stelios Kitsiou (Ankaragucu/Turkish Super Lig): Helped Ankaragucu defeated Kasimpasa 3:0 by playing the full 90 minutes.

Andreas Tatos (Altay/First League): Played 90 minutes in a 3:2 away victory against Adanaspor in the Turkish second tier.

Andreas Vasilogiannis (Umraniyespor/First League): Scored his team’s goal in a 1:1 draw against Giresunspor while taking a yellow card. Played 90 minutes.

Giorgos Georgiadis (Elazigspor/First League): Used as a substitute after 61 minutes of the 1:3 defeat against Balikesirspor.

SWITZERLAND

Konstantinos Dimitriou (FC Basel/Swiss Super League): Didn’t play in the 1:1 with St Gallen at home.

SCOTLAND

Marios Ogkmpoe (Hamilton/Scottish Premiership): Missed last Wednesday’s 2:1 victory over St. Johnstone at home.

ROMANIA

Aris Soiledis (FC Botosani/Romanian Liga 1): Took a yellow card while playing 90 minutes of the 1:0 victory against Voluntari.

Athanasios Papazoglou (Dinamo Bucharesti/Romanian Liga 1): Didn’t play in the 1:0 win over Sepsi on the road.

POLAND

Giannis Mystakidis (Gornik Zabrze/Ekstraklasa): Emerged as a substitute after 70 minutes of the 2:0 home victory against Wisla Krakow.

Giorgos Mygas (Zagłębie/Ekstraklasa): Wasn’t in the team for the 2:1 win against Lech Poznan.

HUNGARY

Theodoros Berios (Kisvarda/OTP Bank Liga): Not a part of the squad for a game against Debrecen at home. Kisvarda won 3:0.

Stavros Tsoukalas (Kisvarda/OTP Bank Liga): Scored the first goal for Kisvarda in the 3:0 triumph over Debrecen. Started the match and was substituted on 78 minutes.

AZERBAIJAN

Vangelis Platellas (NeftcHi Baku/Premier League): Taken off in the second half of the 2:0 victory against Keshla at home.

INDIA

Panagiotis Triadis (North East United/Indian Super League): Played 90 minutes in a 1:1 draw with the Delhi Dynamos.
