Greeks Abroad Review: Maniatis The Bright Spot In Quiet Week

Greeks Abroad Review: Maniatis The Bright Spot In Quiet Week

AGONAsport’s George Tsitsonis rounds up the performances of Greeks playing in other leagues in this week’s Greeks Abroad Review.

Watch the Champions League fixture between Juventus and Olympiacos LIVE from AGONAsport.com on Wednesday, Sept 27th. Details here!

It was a below-par week for Greeks plying their trade abroad, at least as far as goals scored and assists made in leagues across Europe. The highlight was probably Giannis Maniatis and his assist in Alanyaspor’s superb 4-3 comeback win over Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor had taken a 3-0 lead in this match, but Maniatis and Greek teammate Giorgos Tzavellas helped in spurring their team on to an amazing fightback. Tzavellas played the entire 90 minutes as did Maniatis and the latter produced an assist to help make the score 3-2 and keep the momentum on for the comeback.

Elsewhere, defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Kostas Manolas produced high quality performances as their clubs won over the weekend. Another defender, Dimitris Siovas also helped Leganes to a victory as they moved up to 6th place in La Liga. Kostas Mitroglou is getting closer to making his Marseille debut as he recovers from injury while Nikos Karelis is also nearer to a return after a long layoff.
