Hitman Kostas Mitroglou included in FIFA’s list of players to watch
Ahead of the crucial 2018 World Cup playoffs, star Greek forward Kostas Mitroglou has been included in FIFA’s list of eight players to watch for these decisive qualifying matches.
Mitroglou has been a shining light in a much improved qualifying campaign for Greece, scoring an impressive six goals in just eight appearances. His goals are a telling reason behind the Greeks’ qualification for the playoff stage, something which hasn’t gone unnoticed by FIFA. The article provided by FIFA.com recalls Mitroglou’s World Cup playoff heroics in 2013, when he scored three goals to dramatically propel Greece to the planet’s biggest competition in a two-legged playoff against Romania. Taking his goalscoring form into account, no one would bet against him repeating the trick against Croatia.
Talking of Croatia, their midfielder Luka Modric is also on the list. The Real Madrid man is the engine of this Croatian side, with the 32 year old running the midfield. As FIFA mention in the section, he is regarded by some as the world’s best midfielder. Greece somehow have to come up with a plan to nullify Modric’s influence on the game.
Former Panathinaikos favourite Marcus Berg is one of the eight, and it’s not a surprise. Berg, a natural born scorer, has found the net on eight separate occasions during the qualifying campaign. The others mentioned are Steven Davis (NIR), Xherdan Shaqiri (SUI), Ciro Immobile (ITA), Christian Eriksen (DEN) and James McClean (IRL).
