How AEK, PAOK, PAO can progress to the Europa League group stages
 

Greece will have three teams in action in Thursday’s Europa League playoff qualifying round with hopes of all three progressing to the group stages of the competition. AGONAsport breaks down all the scenarios.

AEK, PAOK, and Panathinaikos will be in action on Thursday for their second leg fixtures in the UEFA Europa League playoff qualifying round. The first leg saw PAOK defeat Ostersunds 3-1 in Thessaloniki while Panathinaikos gave up a 2-goal lead in six minutes to fall to Athletic Bilbao 2-3 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium. AEK and Club Brugge played to a goalless draw in Belgium with a tightly contested second leg awaiting at the OAKA stadium.

For the good of Greek football, the hope is that all three Greek teams advance to the group stages of the Europa League. With the presence of three Greek teams in Europe’s second tier club competition, Greece will have the opportunity to continue their climb in the UEFA Associations Coefficient rankings, after Olympiacos’ qualification to the Champions league group stages saw Greece jump into 12th place in the rankings.

Ostersunds - PAOK (1 - 3). With PAOK having won the first leg at home 3-1, the Dikefalos tou Vora will advance to the group stages if in the second leg they:
      - Win or draw the match
      - Lose by one goal
      - Lose by one goal if PAOK scores two or more goals

PAOK will be eliminated if in the second leg they:
      - Lose by 3 or more goals
      - Lose 2-0

If the match ends 3-1 in favor of Ostersunds, the game will be sent into extra time.


Athletic Bilbao - Panathinaikos (3 - 2). With Panathinaikos having lost the first leg at home 2-3, the Prasini will advance to the group stages if in the second leg they:
      - Win the match by two or more goals
      - Win the match by one goal if they score four or more goals

Panathinaikos will be eliminated if in the second leg they:
      - Lose or draw
      - Win by 1 goal if Panathinaikos scores 1 or 2 total goals.

If the match ends 2-3 in favor of Panathinaikos, the game will be sent into extra time.


AEK - Club Brugge (0 - 0). With AEk having drawn the first leg on the road 0-0, the Enosis will advance to the group stages if in the second leg they:
      - Win

AEK will be eliminated if in the second leg they:
      - Lose
      - A draw with any scoreline other than 0-0.

If the match ends in a 0-0 draw, the game will be sent into extra time.
