Improvement and second win for APOEL
APOEL got the job done in Luxemburg against Dudelange recording a second 0-1 win to qualify for the next round of Champions League qualifying where they will now face Romanian champions Viitorul.
The Galazokitrinoi put together a much-needed improved performance after a disappointing first leg in Nicosia that left the fans unsatisfied despite a 1-0 win. After holding off the hosts’ energetic start without much difficulty, APOEL controlled the pace of the game and started to push for a goal that would kill off the tie. Five minutes before the halftime whistle, Tommy Oar was awarded a penalty kick and Igor De Camargo made no mistake from the spot to give the 0-1 lead to the Cypriot champions.
Early in the second half, APOEL looked for a second goal but their efforts were not successful while Dudelange searched for an equalizer which would not come. Eventually, the pace of the game slowed down and the match ended with a 0-1 win to the visitors (2-0 win on aggregate).
Although it was an overall better performance from APOEL, there will need to be much more improvement before the games with Viitorul take place. The first leg will be on July 26th in Romania and the return leg on August 2nd in Nicosia.
