Although at a first glance it may appear that something happened overnight between Ivic and PAOK, however that is not the case. Shortly after the conquest of the Greek Cup, the first signs of rupture in the two sides’ relations appeared.
At the time, Ivic was offered a contract renewal by Savvidis that did not satisfy the Serbian coach. Ivic’s negative stance towards Savidis’ offer, in combination with PAOK’s failure to ensure first place in the playoffs (missing out on Champions League qualifying) were more than enough to raise doubts towards PAOK’s head coach.
Following PAOK’s defeat to Panathinaikos in Toumba, Savvidis expressed his disappointment towards the young coach. Ivic took responsibility for the team’s failure and placed his future at the team in the president’s hands.
According to sources, Ivic will likely submit his resignation having already told his associates to begin packing their bags. However, things are expected to clear up in the upcoming meeting between the two sides within the following days.
Since Ivic’s take over last season, PAOK count 42 victories, 11 draws, and 16 defeats from 69 matches. In addition, Ivic led PAOK to a second place finish in this years Superleague regular season, a run to the UEFA Europa League round of 32, and the club’s first title in 14 years.
