Kalloni Relegated to Gamma Ethniki
A late goal from Apostolopoulos gave Chania a 0-1 win on the road against Kalloni, mathematically sending the Mytilene side down to the Greek third division.
The downfall continues for Kalloni. After suffering relegation from last year’s Greek Superleague to the Football League, the Mytilene side were relegated for a second consecutive season and will play in next year’s Gamma Ethniki.
Kalloni needed a miracle to avoid the drop as their season was in a downward spiral both on and off the pitch. In addition to their place at the bottom of the Football League standings, the club faced financial burdens that could still result in an early exit from this year’s league play.
Today’s loss to Chania, with an 86th minute goal from Apostolopoulos, mathematically sent the islanders down to the third division where they will hope to start fresh and climb their way back professional football.
As for Chania, the result moves them 10 points clear of the drop zone and can considerd themselves “safe” from relegation trouble as they sit in 9th place with 34 points.
