Karelis scores first goal since comeback from ACL injury
Greek forward Nikolaos Karelis finally got off the mark for Genk in the 2017/2018 Jupiler League in Belgium, helping his club rescue a 1:1 draw against Charleroi.
Until today, it’s been a tough campaign for the 25 year old. In his third year with Belgian side Genk, Karelis only recently returned to the starting line-up after a terrible ACL injury sustained last year. Nevertheless, he is slowly getting back to his best. Just two minutes after Charleroi has taken the lead midway through the second half, Karelis reached a pinpoint cross from the left wing to plant a firm header beyond the goalkeeper’s flailing dive.
His goal proved to be the final marker in the match, as Genk held out to claim a 1:1 draw which keeps them in ninth position of the Belgian championship. Having scored a combined nineteen goals in his previous two seasons with Genk, Karelis will be hoping that this goal will help him find his best form.
