Kolovetsios signs new contract with Panathinaikos
Panathinaikos have tied down experienced centre back Dimitris Kolovetsios long-term, as the 27-year-old has agreed to sign a new 3-year contract which will keep him in green until 2022.
Nikos Dabizas stated some time ago that talks were underway, and they have now ended positively in the case of Kolovetsios. Signed by Marinos Ouzounidis in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer from AEK, Kolovetsios has drastically improved under Giorgos Donis, earning a call up to the Ethniki squad along the way as a reward for his efforts.
The club intended to offer new and improved deals to a series of players as they look to avoid anyone departing. Ousmane Coulibaly is still in negotiations about an extension.
Kolovetsios’ contract extension was confirmed by the club in quite an unconventional manner - moments before kick off in the recent home match against Xanthi over the loudspeakers.
In other news, Panathinaikos also confirmed talented youngster Vasilis Zagaritis has signed his first professional contract. The 18-year-old will now fight for a place in the first team after impressing in the club’s youth setup ever since joining in 2015. The striker remains grounded and is aware of the challenges that lie ahead after stating “hard work and discipline” are required to make the dream a reality.
