Kone close to return to AEK, Almeida and AEK part ways
After Sergio Araujo, AEK are close to signing another former player with Panagiotis Kone while earlier today, Hugo Almeida was released by the club after a one year stay in Athens.
According to sources, AEK have reached a deal with both Udinese and Panagiotis Kone for the 30-year old’s return to the Kitronomavri. Sources mention that only minor details remain to finalize the move, which includes a one year loan deal from Udinese and a buy-out clause at the end of the season. The Enosis are also expected to cover a portion of his contract with Udinese, which expires in 2019. Developments will take place on Thursday as the transfer window closes tomorrow.
Last year’s big summer signing, Hugo Almeida, agreed to terminate his current contract with club and was officially released on Wednesday. The Portuguese striker did not live up to the expectations set by the club during his one year spell in Athens, which led to his contract termination by mutual consent. Almeida stated that he was happy to be given the opportunity to play for AEK and that the team has earned a special place in his heart.
Finally, Didac Vila has officially left AEK and joined Spanish side Espanyol. Following his release from the Kitrinomavri, Didac proceeded to a statement where he thanked his former team and apologized for his behaviour over the last months. His new deal with Espanyol includes a whopping €25 million buy-out clause for any club interested in purchasing the player.
