After picking up their first-ever road win in the Greek Basket League last weekend, Kymis repeated that feat on Saturday against Trikala. Meanwhile, Panionios remain winless on the season after losing in Lavrio.

Matchday 8 in the Greek Basket League tipped-off at the Melina Merkouri Indoor Hall as Rethymno stunned Promitheas for an 82-78 home victory. The Cretan Kings, led by Stefan Moody’s 21 points, edged out the game in the fourth quarter as both teams kept each other in check throughout the contest. The loss sees Promitheas fall to 6-2 on the season, ending a streak of three straight wins for the club despite a 28-point effort from Milan Milosevic.

In the first of four later tip-offs, PAOK secured their fourth straight win, 91-87, against Koroivos in overtime at the Amaliada Indoor Hall. Jahii Carson scored a game-high 28 points for Koroivos, but the American’s effort would go unrewarded as PAOK were propelled to victory thanks to a 25-point night from Phil Goss, and a double-double from Lucky Jones (18 points, 12 rebounds).

Lavrio also continued their winning streak, extending the run to five consecutive wins with an 83-73 win over struggling Panionios. A massive second quarter in which Lavrio went on a 22-9 run saw the Metallorichoi keep their winning streak alive; however, a big third quarter from Panionios did make the fourth and final frame interesting but not enough to spare the Panthers from their eighth straight loss. Doron Lamb scored 21 points in the win for Lavrio, while Vangelis Sakkelariou continued to be an offensive leader for Panionios with another team-leading performance with 19 points on the night.

In Rhodes, Kolossos ended an ugly three game losing streak with an emphatic 94-74 win over Gymnastikos. After a tight first quarter which saw Gymnastikos with a one-point lead, Kolossos upped the pressure to the final buzzer with three dominating quarters en route to the win. Ramon Harris led Kolossos with 16 points on the night, but a double-double from Malcolm Griffin was the boost needed for the islanders as the American added 10 points to his 11-assist night. The loss sees Gymnastikos fall to 3-5 on the season with the Larissa-based outfit now winless in three straight games.

Kymis had their fair share of losses to start the season, but the newly promoted club picked up their second win as many games with a 71-60 defeat of Trikala away from home. Holding a 22-point lead after three quarter, Kymis fought-off an onslaught from Trikala in the fourth quarter to claim the victory. Trikala, who have now lost four straight contests, slipped into the relegation zone despite an 18-point effort from ShawnDre’ Jones. Kymis, meanwhile, were led by Lenzel Smith’s 21 points and double-doubles from Gary McGhee (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Michale Kyser (10 points, 12 rebounds).
