Playing fantastic football on the counterattack, Xanthi defeated Panetolikos 2-3 in Agrinio. The visitors recorded their first win in three games.
Xanthi took the lead in the 19th minute when they went on the counterattack (after Makos’ mistake) and good play between Younes and Triadis resulted in Triadis’ opener from close range. After falling behind, Panetolikos increased their pressure in Xanthi’s half but the visitors went into the break ahead.
Xanthi got off to a great start in the second half by doubling their lead in the 48th minute with Lazic’s header from Lucero’s cross. A harsh penalty allowed Panetolikos to get back in the game where Warda found the back of the net from 11-meters in 64th minute. However, nine minutes later, Younes (who was involved in the all three goals) won a penalty and converted from the spot to re-give Xanthi a 2-goal advantage. Rocha managed to cut Xanthi’s lead with his goal in the 86th minute but it was too little too late as Xanthi went on to win 2-3.
Today’ victory is Xanthi’s first in three matches and their third away from home this season. Panetolikos could not make it two wins from two games after their 2-1 victory against Larissa on Matchday 10. Next weekend, Panetolikos will travel to Veria while Xanthi hosts Asteras Tripolis.
