Aris needed two late goals to prevail over Panserraikos while Panachaiki and OFI cruised to wins over the weekend. Aiginiakos pulled off a spectacular comeback over Ergotelis as Apollon Pontou’s struggles continued against Karaiskakis.
Aris needed two late goals from Diamantopoulos and Tzanakakis to leave Serres against Panserraikos with all three points. After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead in the 58th minute with Sousa, however an absolute beauty from Tsimikas brought the hosts level on 77 minutes. The last laugh fell to Aris as Diamantopoulos netted the winner in the 89th minute before Tzanakakis put the game out of reach in the fourth minute of stoppage time to grant Aris an important victory in the fight for promotion. The Thessaloniki club continue to lead the table with 42 points, five ahead of second placed Panachaiki.
Panachaiki returned to winning ways after dropping points for two consecutive weeks. The Patra side left Karditsa with a deceiving 1:2 away victory over Anagennisi. Panachaiki were in cruise control in the opening half as Moraitis and the youngster Masouras gave the visitors a two goal lead by the 27 minute mark. The visitors were never in threat of losing the lead and a late goal in second half stoppage time from Kone for the Thessaly club added some excitement in the final minutes. Panachaiki held on for the victory and kept their one point advantage over third placed OFI as the Patra side continue to trail the league leaders, Aris, by five points.
OFI stayed within a point of second placed Panachaiki after cruising past Veria 3:0 in Iralekeio. The Cretan club took the lead in the 40th minute through Koutsianikoulis before Manos doubled the hosts lead just before the break in first half stoppage time. The game was put out of reach when Vouho netted OFI’s third goal of the game giving delight to the 5,000 fans in attendance. OFI sit on 36 points while Panachaiki are just one point ahead in second place.
Aiginiakos pulled off a memorable comeback at the expense of Ergotelis in the weekend’s most entertaining match. The Cretan side took a two goal lead in the opening half through Bourselis (8) and Cuypers (28) but an explosive 6 minutes in the second half saw Aiginiakos celebrate a miraculous comeback victory. Papadopoulos started the push with his goal in the 68th minute before Peric brought the scores level in the 70th minute. Aiginiakos wasted no time to find the winner as Tsolakidis’ 74th minute goal finished off an impressive comeback for the Aiginio side, who now sit clear of the drop zone with 19 points. Ergotelis will see this as a lost opportunity in their fight to avoid relegation zone they currently claim 13th place with 16 points.
In other action, Apollon Pontou’s disappointing season continued with a goalless draw at home with Karaiskakis. The Thesaloniki club are in 14th, just three points clear of the drop zone. Sparti prevailed with a narrow 1:0 win over Doxa Dramas while Trikala defeated relegation bound Kallithea 1:0 at home. In Monday’s fixture, in-form AOX Kissamikos were brought back down to earth with a 2:0 loss on the road against Apollon Larissas.
Panegialios were awarded all three points over Acharnaikos, who have withdrawn from the league.
