Lopes set to be AEK’s first signing of the summer
AEK’s are close to signing their first two players of the summer, Romero and Helder Lopes.
With pre-season training set to begin in a few days, AEK have turned their focus on new player additions to the roster for the new season. The Kitrinimavri will begin their European Champions League dream in just over a month.
Helder Lopes is likely to be the club’s first signing off the summer after recent reports from Greece on Tuesday. According to sporfm.gr, the player arrived in Athens early Tuesday morning and will go through the necessary medical tests later in the day. Lopes is coming off of a season in the Spanish la Liga with Las Palmas where he made 17 appearances (15 in the league, 2 in the cup) and recorded 1 assist. Lopes was on AEK’s radar last season as well, but Las Palmas signed the player before the Kitrinomavri could act.
Following these events, Didac’s departure from Athens seems to be certain. Didac has drawn the attention of teams in Spain, amongst them Espanyol, who are willing to offer to the Enosis €1.5 million for the player. Didac was a consistent starter in AEK’s lineup this season counting 43 appearances and 3 goals in both the Superleague and Greek Cup.
Apart from the left back, AEK are in need of a wing forward and that matter has been amongst the club’s top priorities over the summer. Jimenez’s “chosen one” for the position seems to be Jaime Romero, who is close to a move to AEK. Osasuna, who were relegated to the Spanish second division, have released the player and AEK can now proceed with his signing. According to sources, Romero and AEK have agreed to a deal with only the final details remaining to be resolved before the Kitrinomavri announce his signing. Romero is coming off of a full season with Osasuna in the Spanish la Liga with 22 appearances, 1 goal, and 4 assists. Apart from Osasuna, Romero has played for Udinese, Granada, Orduspor, Real Madrid B’, and Zaragoza.
Finally, another consistent name in AEK’s transfer gossip has been Nacho Scocco. After a game against Lanus, he stated that although things are very difficult at Newells Old Boys, he will first help his team qualify for next season’s Copa Libertadores and will announce his decision after the final two games with his current club. AEK are optimistic that Scocco will join AEK as they count on the the fact that they have made the best offer to the player. Moreover, the player has expressed his will to return to AEK if he eventually leaves Newell’s but in the end, he will do whatever is best for his current team as they face financial difficulties.
