Manolas strikes gold in Roma victory
Greek national team centre-back Kostas Manolas grabbed his second marker of the Serie A campaign, scoring the opening goal in AS Roma’s 3:0 home victory against Torino.
Not often famed for his scoring abilities, Manolas popped up at the right time for Roma in a tight Serie A meeting with Torino, breaking the deadlock after 56 minutes of play. Rising highest at the far post, the 26-year old defender met Alessandro Florenzi’s looping cross with a firm header, giving Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu no chance. After scoring the goal, the Greek international pointed to the sky to dedicate his goal to Fiorentina’s captain Davide Astori, who tragically passed away in his sleep earlier this week.
Roma went on to score two more goals in the remaining time, earning a 3:0 victory to stay in third place of Serie A. The capital club currently trail leaders Napoli by 13 points.
Before scoring on Friday evening, the Greek’s last goal in Serie A came in a 4:2 win against Fiorentina on November 5.
