Mantalos signs new AEK deal which will keep him at the club until 2022
Nothing but bad news has been coming AEK’s way recently, but injured captain Petros Mantalos has given the Athenians something to celebrate. During Thursday afternoon, AEK announced that the 26 year old midfielder has signed a deal which will keep him at the club until summer 2022.
Since joining the club in 2014 from Xanthi, Mantalos has gone on to become an irreplaceable figure for the capital giants. He helped AEK return to the Super League in his first season, then scoring a goal in the triumphant 2016 Greek Cup final against Olympiacos. Mantalos has scored 20 goals in 84 league games for AEK, helping the club qualify for the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Since the team dropped down into the Europa League, Mantalos netted one goal in the first game against Rijeka, AEK’s only victory in the group so far.
According to AEK’s official website, Petros Mantalos will participate in a press-conference dedicated to his contract extension this evening.
