Manthatis/Androutsos Living the Dream...Zeca Ready to Help Out
Michael Skibbe called up three new faces to the National Team this go around with Georgios Manthatis, Thansis Androutsos, and Carlos Zeca. The two Olympiacos youngsters are living the dream while Zeca is ready to help out Greece’s National Team.
Carlos Zeca could not hide his joy in his first training sessions with the Greek National Team and he is ready to help out wherever he is needed. In an interview after his first training sessions he stated “Everything that I have accomplished in my life, from my first days in Greece, has been given to me by the Greek people. That is why I want to give my heart and soul for our National Team to win.”
When the Panathinaikos captain was asked how many kilometers he is willing to run for the Galanolefki he responded “I don’t know, 15, 20...If needed to help the team, I will run until tomorrow.” In regards to his first impressions of the team “I have been waiting for this moment a long time. Last night I was thinking about how practice would go, since it would be my first with the team, but everyone was very good to me and I am very happy. I knew Kapino and I was warmly welomced by Tzavellas along with the other players. I am to happy to be here and help the team win.”
Zeca received his Greek passport on Wednesday and he can officially play in Saturday’s match against Belgium.
In addition to Zeca, Olympiacos youngsters Georgios Manthatis and Thanasi Androutsos were also called up for the first time to the National Team. Manthatis stated “It was a life dream of mine to be called up to the National Team. Everyone welcomed me with open arms and there is a family environment within the team. I feel like I am living a dream. I believe I am ready, but the coach has the final decision.”
After his first sessions with the Galanolefki Androutsos stated “It is difficult for me to fathom my call up, but I need to understand that it is a reality. It is an honor and thrill that I am with the National Team. Everyone welcomed me and congratulated me. Now we need to work so we are ready for the match against Belgium.”
