Mavropanos impresses in debut Arsenal U23 appearance
Since his signing for the English giants in early January, Arsenal fans haven’t known what to expect from Mavropanos, but the centre-back’s solid showing on Monday should give them a clue. The Greek helped Arsenal beat Manchester United’s reserves 4:0 at home, playing the entire 90 minutes while picking up a yellow card in the second half.
Mavropanos impressed with his performance, demonstrating the huge potential which he owns. The defender won every battle in the air, displayed excellent composure when in possession, and even had a goalbound shot from distance blocked. Taking into consideration it was Mavropanos’ first match in English football, his calmness came as a pleasant surprise to many.
On their official Twitter account, Arsenal Football Club posted a short video clip showing Mavropanos beating a Manchester United player with a clever piece of skill:
When Mavropanos joined Arsenal, head coach Arsene Wenger initially stated that the defender would be sent on loan for the remainder of the season, however he now seems keen to keep him in London. If he continues playing with such confidence, Mavropanos could start knocking on the door for a place in the senior team.
