Missas not expected to continue as Greece coach
Kostas Missas is not expected to continue as Greece's head coach after the Ethniki’s exit at Eurobasket 2017. The Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) will begin searching for his successor as the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers begin in two months.
On Wednesday, Greece’s run at Eurobasket 2017 came to an end after a 74-69 loss to Russia in the quarter-finals in what was a tightly contested game. According to sources, it was Kostas Missas’ last game in charge of the Ethniki and the federation is expected to part ways with the Greek boss. Although no official announcement has been released, developments are expected in the coming days as the FIBA World Cup qualifiers begin in November.
According to sport24.gr, Ilias Papatheodorou is considered the favorite to take charge of the national team. The current PAOK boss has had great success with Greece’s youth national teams and seems the right fit for the job to lead the Ethniki in the upcoming qualifiers. In addition to Papatheodorou, Missas’ assistant Thanasis Skourtopoulos is also high on the list.
