Missas ready to announce pre-selection roster
Kostas Missas is expected to announce the national team’s pre-selection roster for the upcoming Eurobasket tournament early next week.
With training set to begin at the end of the month (July 26), Kostas Missas is expected to announce the players that will be called-up for Greece’s pre-selection roster for the upcoming Eurobasket tournament. Missas will likely call up 16 players with 1-2 of those players set to have complementary role and gain valuable experience by training with the Ethniki. From the 16 man pre-selection roster, Missas will cut the roster to the final 12 players that will represent Greece at the European championships.
Sure call-ups for the pre-selection will be: Calathes, Sloukas, Mantzaris, Pappas, Papanikolaou, Papapetrou, T. Antetokounmpo, G. Antetokounmpo, Printezis, Agravanis, Bourousis, Bogris, and Papagiannis. Auguste, Mitoglou, Kavvadas, and Vougioukas will likely fight for the final three spots on the roster.
The big question that remains is if Kostas Koufos of the Sacramento Kings will play for the national team for the upcoming Eurobasket. Koufos, who has expressed his desire to leave the Kings for another NBA team, wants to focus on where he will continue his career next season and this will likely affect his decision on joining the national team this summer for training. The federation has given Koufos until Friday to make his final decision as this is the only uncertainty before Missas announces the pre-selection roster.
Tyler Dorsey, who was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, will play in the Summer League in hopes of earning a spot with his new team and will not be Missas’ plans for the roster. The conclusion is that Dorsey is not guaranteed a place in the Ethniki’s final roster and by joining the national team for training, he would miss out on the Summer League. This outcome could potentially hinder is chances to play in the NBA next season with the Hawks.
Finally, the veteran Stratos Perperoglou, will likely not be called up but there is always a possibility.
