Mitroglou debuts for Marseille
Kostas Mitroglou returned from injury and debuted for Marseille in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League fixture against Salzburg.
Good news came out of Austria on Thursday night as Kostas Mitroglou debuted for Marseille in his side’s Europa League fixture away to Red Bull Salzburg. The Greek striker has been troubled by an injury since August, missing the early part of the season both for club and country, but is now fit for action. The 29-year old made his first appearance with his new club after making a deadline day move from the Portuguese champions to the French side.
With Mitroglou fully fit to play, Michael Skibbe will have Greece’s star striker available for the Ethniki’s final two qualifiers against Cyprus (7-Oct) and Gibraltar (10-Oct). Although Greece do not control their own fate in Group H, need Bosnia to drop points in one of their final two matches, the Galanolefki will need to win their remaining matches to have hopes of claiming second place in the group and a possible playoff spot.
For the record, Marseille fell 1-0 away to Red Bull Salzburg in Thursday’s Europa League match.
