Mitroglou edging closer to Marseille exit
Greek striker Konstantinos Mitroglou, who has struggled at Marseille in Ligue 1, is edging closer to an exit from the French organisation with reports suggesting the management want to sell him.
This season, Mitroglou has participated in 13 Ligue 1 matches with Marseille, registering three goals while injury problems and reported disagreements with head coach Rudi Garcia have largely kept him out of the side. Initially, it was stated that Marseille want to keep him for at least the remainder of the 2018/2019 season, but now the media are reporting that Mitroglou is for sale in the current winter transfer window.
According to reports emerging from Portuguese outlet A Bola, Marseille have decided that Mitroglou isn’t needed anymore, with the club targeting well-known Italian forward Mario Balotelli as a replacement. The same stories revealed that Marseille fans are keen for Mitroglou to leave after a series of disappointing performances in the south of France.
In August 2017, Mitroglou left Portuguese giants Benfica to join Marseille, however he hasn’t been able to settle in Ligue 1 and is in desperate need of a boost to his career. It’s not yet known where his next destination might be and Transfermarkt rate his value at 10 million euros.
