Mitroglou likely to stay at Marseille after previous rumours
Not long ago, it appeared certain Greek striker Konstantinos Mitroglou was heading for the Marseille exit door, but now it seems he will stay in Ligue 1.
The 2018/2019 season is turning into a complete nightmare for Mitroglou. Hampered by injuries and simply out of favour with head coach Rudi Garcia, the 30-year forward has been restricted to 13 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring three goals in that period. When he has been given a chance on the pitch, the Greek international has looked out of sorts, and rumours in the media suggested he was preparing to pack his bags in the winter transfer window.
However, in recent days, new stories in the press state that Mitroglou will stay put at Marseille. Panos Galariotis, Mitroglou’s agent, allegedly gave this quote to the media: “All reports stating that Konstantinos Mitroglou will leave Marseille are false. They don’t have the slightest bit of credibility. Neither Marseille or Mitroglou want to end their partnership and I can say that the player is happy playing for this club. He is committed to Marseille.”
According to SDNA.gr, Marseille have received two offers from England and Spain concerning Mitroglou, however the French aren’t willing to sell the forward despite his struggles this season. During the build up to the winter transfer window, Mitroglou had been linked with possible moves to Olympiacos, Valencia, and other European organisations.
Mitroglou has been playing for Marseille since transferring to the Ligue 1 club from Benfica in August 2017. His current contract runs until June 2021, with his rating valued at 10 million euros by Transfermarkt.
