Mitroglou scores first Ligue 1 goal for 89 days
Greek forward Kostas Mitroglou finally hit the target in Ligue 1, scoring his team’s final goal in Marseille’s pulsating 6:3 victory against Metz at the Stade Velodrome.
Struggling for form and a place in the team all season long, Mitroglou has found it tough going during his debut campaign with Marseille. Amazingly, before this match, the 29-year old had not scored in Ligue 1 for 89 days.
Mitroglou was introduced as a substitute after 69 minutes against Metz, getting on the scoresheet just 360 seconds later. Dimitri Payet escaped the Metz defence, decided to feed the onrushing Mitroglou, and the latter calmly slotted the ball into the empty net. The Greek now has two goals in this Ligue 1 season, while Marseille are second in the table behind PSG.
