Mitroglou strikes twice in emphatic Marseille triumph
Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou continued his fantastic scoring form in France, hitting the jackpot twice in Marseille’s thumping 5:1 victory over Lille in Ligue 1.
The 30-year old forward has found his scoring boots in Ligue 1 during recent weeks, grabbing three goals in four league appearances before this match. Forcing his way into the Marseille starting line-up, Mitroglou became the star of the show in Saturday’s duel against Lille, beating the opposing goalkeeper twice in a superb first half.
With the score already 2:0 in Marseille’s favour after 35 minutes, Mitroglou rose highest inside the penalty area to aim a perfect header into the right corner beyond the goalkeeper’s flailing grasp.
Incredibly, Mitroglou scored against just three minutes later. After the ball was bouncing around the box, the Greek hitman tapped an expert volley in at point blank range to make it 4:0. Mitroglou ended up remaining on the pitch for the full 90 minutes of play in Marseille’s eventual 5:1 triumph.
Overall, Mitroglou now boasts eight Ligue 1 goals for Marseille in his debut campaign in France. Marseille currently occupy fourth place of the table with 69 points.
